I'm not sure if it's come across in this blog yet or not but I have been told I have somewhat of a tendency to ramble on a bit. My girlfriend tells me I always seem to use ten words when one will do.
I do like to think I can have a certain eloquence about me when I choose to but that, I admit, can on the rare occasion, lead me to over describe things. I guess I could help it I unwanted to but it seems to me that something as useful, diverse and exciting as the English language should be exploited to its fullest whenever possible. Why did Shakespeare write his plays the way he did?
Partly because the language of his era was far more associated with class and social stature and although not a rich man to begin with, his plays were arguably more aimed at the higher aristocracy. But I also believe as a master of his art he wanted to show the world how words and language can be far more than just a form of verbal communication. I think he wanted to show that the way you speak can say a lot about a person.
This blog itself is just a way of me communicating with you in a non verbal way and yet it could be so much more. I'm adamant that communication in all it's forms is the most powerful tool man does and ever has had at his disposal. It has started and ended wars. Given rise to entire nations and defined entire races of people.
Why not rinse it for all it's worth?
